ECS - Passing Proof of Delivery

The challenge

ECS must provide one of its customers with a POD (Proof of Delivery) for each completed transportation order. This was done manually by entering the shipment details on a dedicated customer website and uploading the CMR signed by the recipient as proof of delivery.

The solution

The data bot retrieves a list of all shipments for that customer from the ECS system. Then the data bot downloads the CMRs signed by the recipient. The data bot then applies classic RPA and goes to the customer’s web portal to enter the shipment data through the user interface. The CMRs are uploaded at the same time.

The result

The gain – besides the obvious time savings for staff – is in smoothing out the spikes in orders for this customer. Sometimes there were only a handful to handle, sometimes hundreds. This is very difficult to schedule.

With this application, ECS won the Truck ICT Award 2021.
